Energy monitor kits — what to buy to monitor your house, flat or workshop

You know what you want to see — what the solar sells, what the heat pump costs, which machine eats the input — but not which parts to order. Each kit is one project: the meters, modules and hub, plus the clamps, rated for your breakers. How to build it is on rbgrid.io.

Energy monitor kit for a solar house that exports (single-phase, with a car charger)

One total on the meter mixes what you bought with what you sold, and the car charger hides in it. With this kit you see the supply, the inverter line and the circuits apart, with export valued at your sell price.

  • 2 × STD-UI1, 60 A kit — on the supply and on the inverter line, each with its calibrated sensor
  • 1 × Basic UI5 for SCT-013 — five current channels; this build uses four, one stays spare
  • 4 × SCT-013 voltage-output clamps — choose each rating by its circuit's breaker
  • Hub — any ESP32-WROVER with PSRAM and 16 MB flash (for example N16R8): one you have, or any you buy (not in the kit)

From $53.79 for the meters and modules; SCT-013 clamps from $3.59 each; the hub is extra.

3-phase energy monitor kit for a house with a heat pump and an EV charger

The bill says how much the house used, not what the heat pump and the charger cost in each tariff zone. With this kit you see the three-phase input and both big loads. The STD-U3I3 counts import and export separately at the supply, three phases live — ready if solar comes later.

  • 1 × STD-U3I3, 60 A kit — on the three-phase input, with its calibrated sensors
  • 3 × Basic UI3 for SCT-013 — one per phase: a Basic module measures only the circuits of its own phase
  • 7 × SCT-013 voltage-output clamps — choose each rating by its circuit's breaker
  • Hub — any ESP32-WROVER with PSRAM and 16 MB flash (for example N16R8): one you have, or any you buy (not in the kit)

From $86.87 for the meters and modules; SCT-013 clamps from $3.59 each; the hub is extra.

Energy monitor kit for a flat with a day/night tariff

A day/night tariff only pays off if you know what runs when. With this kit you see the supply and five circuits, each in its tariff zone.

  • 1 × STD-UI1, 60 A kit — on the supply, with its calibrated sensor
  • 1 × Basic UI5 for SCT-013 — five current channels
  • 5 × SCT-013 voltage-output clamps — choose each rating by its circuit's breaker
  • Hub — any ESP32-WROVER with PSRAM and 16 MB flash (for example N16R8): one you have, or any you buy (not in the kit)

From $33.89 for the meters and modules; SCT-013 clamps from $3.59 each; the hub is extra.

3-phase energy monitor kit for a workshop

You don't know which machine runs, what the compressor costs, or how close the workshop gets to its input limit. With this kit you see the three-phase input and five circuits.

  • 1 × STD-U3I3, 60 A kit — on the three-phase input, with its calibrated sensors
  • 1 × Basic UI1 and 2 × Basic UI3 for SCT-013 — one per phase: a Basic module measures only the circuits of its own phase
  • 5 × SCT-013 voltage-output clamps — choose each rating by its circuit's breaker
  • Hub — any ESP32-WROVER with PSRAM and 16 MB flash (for example N16R8): one you have, or any you buy (not in the kit)

From $81.87 for the meters and modules; SCT-013 clamps from $3.59 each; the hub is extra.

Energy monitor kit for a car park with three EV chargers

Three chargers on one supply: how close do they get to its capacity? With this kit you see the supply, the building, the lighting and each charger.

  • 1 × STD-UI1, 100 A kit — on the supply, with its calibrated sensor
  • 1 × Basic UI5 for SCT-013 — five current channels
  • 5 × SCT-013 voltage-output clamps — choose each rating by its circuit's breaker
  • Hub — any ESP32-WROVER with PSRAM and 16 MB flash (for example N16R8): one you have, or any you buy (not in the kit)

From $33.89 for the meters and modules; SCT-013 clamps from $3.59 each; the hub is extra.

Your clamps follow your breakers

For each circuit, take the smallest SCT-013 rating at or above its breaker. The STD meters come with their own calibrated sensors, so the supply needs no clamp.

Safety. The measurement inputs connect to mains. For work inside an electrical panel, call a qualified electrician.
